4 Deadly Mistakes you must avoid when Designing Wine Cellar

When you are thinking of luxury, the most important thing that can cross your mind is a leisurely evening in the company of wine. Wine speaks of class and sophistication. Getting a treasured bottle of favorite wine is often like a dream for you, and especially if it is vintage. And if you have an extensive collection of wine and you are thinking of preserving them in their best health, then you need a dream wine cellar at your home.

Some old houses in the town are blessed with basement wine cellar. But, most of the new buildings and condos do not have such blessings. However, if you have space at your home you can surely consider having a wine cellar designed and installed at your home. In fact, you can instruct the designer to design a custom wine room for you that will perfectly fit your needs and requirements.

For such a cellar, you need a team of a designer who is experienced enough to comprehend your needs. Often, inexperienced designs also commit some huge mistakes with design and building a wine cellar. So, before you need to hire the designer, you need to know what mistakes you need to avoid. Take a look at the following points.

Assuming Underground Cellar to be Cold Always

Well, this is completely impossible. In some old mansions of Houston, such cellars are often found. I have often seen people stressing over making a cellar in the basement, thinking the temperature of the cellar will be always cool. If you are thinking in a serious way, then you are  mistaken. Rather the contrary is often true. During summer, if the cellar has a concrete roof, the cellar becomes extremely hot. And obviously, such a cellar is often not the wisest choice for a wine enthusiast.

Waiting for Having the Collection before building the Cellar

I have seen people most of the time investing in wine cellar racks, instead of a cellar just because they are yet to have an extensive collection of wine bottles. However, this is not at all a clever decision. If you have such a huge collection, like for hundred bottles, you will store it in a general room or garage in the Custom Wine Rack.  But, the environment and the weather of the place will not be right to keep the wine in the best shape.

Not thinking of Climate Control

To keep the wine at its best condition, you need a room temperature of 14 degrees and humidity of 55% to 75%. But, if you are thinking that storing wine in metal wine racks in normal temperature of air condition, my dear, you are going to lose your treasured collection. In such environment, your wine won’t be able to retain the perfect health.

Not investing in a proper Door

A proper door for a wine cellar is an important need. It is not only necessary to prevent the intrusion of your over-enthusiastic guests, but also from the temperature and humidity or dryness of outside the room. As I have mentioned in the previous point, it is necessary to have the ideal climate in the room. The proper door with door locks and door sweep ensures better health of wine. Also, the aesthetic values should never be ignored.

So, now as you know about the mistakes that you need to avoid, I am sure you will be able to successfully design your dream wine cellar. Communicate with your designer and make your dream come true.
