Task 1

Time your Response
Timing is a crucial factor. So time your response accordingly. Take care that you don't spend more than 20 minutes on Task 1 and not more than 40 minutes on Task2. While task 1 takes about 150 words, Task2 takes 250 words. Task2 carries twice the marks of section 1.

Before Starting With Writing

Read the task carefully and note all the stages mentally. It will come in handy because if you misrepresent the facts, you will end up losing marks.

While you Write

It will help if you introduce the information in one or two sentences. If you just copy the question,  the examiner is going to ignore it and won't grant you any marks. Next, it is important to summarise the central points and use figures to illustrate the points. This is very significant as you will again lose marks if you fail to mention or illustrate them. You are also required to give an overview of the information, either in the introduction or the conclusion phase. Neglecting this aspect is again going to cost you marks.

Tips For Effective Writing In IELTS

Use language which goes on to illustrate the usage of your own words. Using a lot of grammatical structures will also help. This is important because you will gain more marks if you do so. The examiners are looking for writing skills, after all. It will also be beneficial if you divide your work into paragraphs and use linkers for connecting them. This will also help you in gaining a better score as you will be granted marks for your organizational skills. The examiner will also award marks for linking and references if used in your paragraphs.

After Finishing The Writing

Checking the answer is the most important part of this stage. Check whether you have written the required word count. Although you may not get extra marks for longer answers, the shorter answers will make you lose marks. The other important thing you must check is the spelling and grammar. If you commit mistakes on this account, you will again lose marks.

Task 2

Clearly note how many parts are there. Answer each part of the question or you will lose marks. Make a mental plan or note it on a paper after deciding your main ideas. Introduce the topic in your own words, put across clear ideas, use examples and write a clear conclusion. Use good vocabulary and grammar structures. Usage of paragraph and linkers is also advised. Check your answers after you have finished. Be careful about the word count, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
