The API group classifications of base oilsThis may be true with foods and other particles but it is not true with products like base oils. In cases of base oil the more it is processed, the better it gets. Base oils can offer improved performance with each level of refinement or processing its goes. With each process its efficiency increases which makes it suitable for various applications. This is the reasons, why base oils like Bright stock 150 are used wisely across the world. When it is about base oil groups they can be broadly classified under various categories. Base oil is often classified under API classification. According to which base oil is often classified on the basis of the characteristic it posses. On the basis of API classification of base oil, the classification is as below:
Group I
Group 1 base oils are the first category of base oil which is just the basic base oils. They are least refined base oils among all the groups of base oils. These types of base oil are mix of different hydrocarbon chains. They have little or no uniformity. Group I stocks like Base oil sn150 are used just in some automotive oils in the market. Because just base oils have just the basic characteristics they are generally used in less demanding applications. The refining process of these types of base oils is called as Solvent Freezing.
Group II
Group II base oils are second types of base oil that are commonly used in mineral based motor oils. They are easily available in market. Their rich lubricating properties make them suitable for good performance. The characteristics of such base oils include its volatility, oxidative stability and rich flash and fire points. With their fair performance, they have excellent pour point, cold crank viscosity and extreme pressure wear. Such base oil undergoes hydro processing and refining.
Group – III
Group III base oils may be subjected to highest level of mineral oil refining. This is maximum among all the base oil groups. Even when, they are not chemically engineered, they can ensure better performance. With its wide range of attributes it is good as well for molecular uniformity and stability. Such base oils can be mixed with additives. They are marketed as synthetic or semi-synthetic products. The refining process of group III base oil is known as Hydro processing and Refining.
Group IV
Group IV base oils are chemically engineered base oils. They are synthetic base stocks used widely in major applications. Polyalphaolefins (PAO's) is a common example of these types of base oils. This synthetic base stock is often combined with additives. They can ensure to offer excellent performance. With wide range of lubricating properties they are used widely in automobile sectors. It is because of their stable chemical compositions and highly uniform molecular chains that these types of base oils are becoming more common in synthetic and synthetic-blend products. They are used for automotive and industrial applications. Group IV base oils may go Chemical Reactions for acquiring better characteristics.
Group V
Group V base oils are oils that do not possess their own characteristics but when mixed with other base oil can enhance their properties and applications. They are used in the creation of oil additives. The common example of Group V base oils are Esters and polyolesters. They are commonly used in the formulation of oil additives. They are generally not used as base oils themselves but they can add beneficial properties to other base oils.
These are some basic reason that notwithstanding when synthetic oil is progressively costly they are generally utilized in various sections. With little speculation it can get a bigger measure of pay off and accordingly nobody falter to use it even when it is accessible at huge cost and subsequently it is utilized over other material like Base oil Sn500 and so on.
