Reasons Why Female Condoms Are Not As Popular As Male CondomsWell, some of you might not even know that there are female condoms as well. But, it’s definitely not your mistake if you didn’t know because they are very rarely discussed. But, why are they not used as much as the male condoms?
We all know that there are hundreds of male condoms available in different shapes and sizes. They are even approved by the recognised body. However, it turns out that there are just a handful of female condoms.
It should be noted that female condoms are also effective in preventing unplanned pregnancies and STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). It’s a sheath with two rings, one open and one closed. It can be inserted up to eight hours before having sex and you don’t have to stop mid-way to put on the condom. Now, how convenient is that?
Despite being equally effective and convenient, only a small percentage of women have used a female condom. So, it makes us wonder why?
One of the reasons might be because it can’t be bought in a store in some of the countries. So, if you want to get this female condom then you need a prescription. However, this can be avoided by buying them from the company’s website that manufactures it.
But there are other problems that has made these female condoms take a back seat. Initially, it was made of polyurethane plastic, which was less flexible than latex. Few women complained about it being uncomfortable, noisy, and slippery.
To add to the misery, it was also slammed by people by comparing its appearance with a jellyfish, a windsock, and a plastic bag.
Also, male condoms have been there for a really long time and people have accepted it. The male condoms are easier to educate. You can let the people know how to use the product, using a banana. Unfortunately, the female condoms don’t have the same accessible models that can make people comfortable.
