What does the Certificate of Compliance (COC) entail?

There are a few different types of certificates of compliance (coc). Electrical and electrical fencing, water installation and the beetle certificate of compliance (coc). Upon the installation of any gas appliances done where you reside, you will receive a certificate of compliance (coc) to state that the installation was done properly by a registered professional, that it has been checked for any leaks and that any emergency shut-off valves are fully operational. These certificates of compliance are valid for five years, after which you should have another inspection done to check all your gas appliances and receive another certificate of compliance (coc).

Why do you need a Certificate of Compliance (COC)?

If you want homeowner’s insurance or want to sell you house and have gas appliances such as a gas stove or gas fireplace etc. at home, you are then required to have a certificate of compliance (coc certificate) for gas. Which proves that all gas appliances have been installed properly by certified professionals, that the proper tests have been completed and there are no underlying issues with any of the gas appliances.

What is checked during a gas inspection?

There are many things checked during such an inspection, the most important part is that the gas appliances are leak free, the gas tanks are all placed a certain distance from certain objects i.e. windows, drains, air vents etc. All emergency shut-off valves are fully operational in the case of a leak, only SABS approved equipment is used, and that you are using the correct size gas bottle for your home and an array of other such specifications are checked for your safety.
