4 Common Misconceptions Regarding Recycling

We all know about recycling. The Orange County, California recycling center has been around for a while now. Yet, many people hold on to outdated or downright incorrect ideas regarding its importance, how it should be done, and more. Take the time to educate yourself so you no longer think any of these:

“It doesn’t matter if I recycle. Enough other people do it!”

Recycling, in general, offers many benefits, like helping with fossil fuel emissions and reducing the waste in landfills. Each and every one of us can make a huge impact! When it comes to recycling, even little piece makes a difference. When you recycle, you’re helping to save precious resources from being over mined from the ground and making sure perfectly good items don’t sit and rot in landfills.

“Only products like plastic and aluminum cans can be recycled.”

Not true! While these are very commonly taken to an Orange County recycling center, they are far from the only items that can be recycled. Recycling and reusing items like cardboard boxes, milk jugs, and newspapers are important to make part of one’s everyday routine to help increase the green movement. As well, electronics and scrap metal can be recycled. Some metals, like copper, steel, aluminum, brass, iron, and wires, are often tossed in the garbage due to the lack of knowledge and sources for metal recycling.

“I’m just going to toss my broken or unused electronics in the trash.”

You cannot do that here in California. Ever since 2017, more than half of U.S. states require you to recycle some forms of electronics. Of those, 17 have banned them from landfills. California is one of those states. That means simply throwing away your electronics, including your computer, is not an option. The good news is that it is easy to recycle electronics.

“It benefits the environment to recycle, but it doesn’t do anything for me.”

Not only is recycling great for the Earth, it is great for you too! This is true even if you don’t care about clean water and air. This is because you can actually make money for taking certain items to an Orange County recycling center. You can walk in with metal and walk out with cash. Many pieces of metal that mean nothing to you is actually quite sought after by companies. They are willing to pay you for your scrap metal because they can extract the valuable materials and reuse them. This is great for everyone because they are still making themselves more money than if they were to mine those materials straight from the ground and the Earth isn’t affected. It isn’t just scrap metal, though. Electronics, even those that no longer work and other materials make you cash as well.

Recycling offers many exciting benefits now, like the opportunity to make money, as well as long-term benefits for the entire planet. If you haven’t been making recycling a priority, make today the day you change that!
