2 Halloween Italian Snacks Recipes You Can Try In Your Kitchen

There was a time when Halloween was not a thing in Italy. However, now, it is extremely popular in the country. Shopkeepers have put up Halloween costumes and decorations for sale. Kids have planned costume parties. Let them head out for trick-or-treating. We are foodies and we have a list with Halloween Italian snacks on the top of the list. Want to make some at home? If you have never cooked before, what’s wrong in trying? 

Let’s make the following 2 Halloween Italian snacks:

Arancini

  • Prep: 1 hour 30 minute 

  • Cook: 40 minutes 

  • Yield: 16 

Ingredients

  • Low-sodium chicken broth: 3 cups 

  • Arborio rice: 1 cup 

  • Pine nuts, toasted: 2 tablespoons 

  • Shredded mozzarella cheese : ½ cup 

  • Shredded fontina cheese : ½ cup        

  • Chopped Fresh Parsley: 2 tablespoons  

  • Large eggs: 2 

  • Grated parmesan cheese: ½ cup 

  • Breadcrumbs: 1 ½ cup

  • Kosher salt  

  • Vegetable oil 

Instructions 

  1. Take a medium saucepan and add ¼ teaspoon salt and broth. Put the saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in rice and reduce the heat to low. Simmer until tender. It will take about 20 minutes. Spread and cool on a parchment-lined baking sheet. 

  2. Combine the mozzarella, pine nuts, parsley and fontina in a bowl and set aside. 

  3. Beat eggs in a large bowl and stir in the parmesan, cooked rice, ⅔ cup breadcrumbs. Make sixteen 1 ½ inch balls of the mixture. 

  4. After putting remaining breadcrumbs in a shallow bowl, press your fingers and insert 2 teaspoons of the mozzarella mixture. Enclose by pinching the rice around the filling. Place the balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet after rolling them in the breadcrumbs. Loosely cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. 

  5. Add ½ inch vegetable oil in a large saucepan and deep fry over medium heat until your thermometer reads 350 °F. Take a batch of rice balls and fry for 4 minutes until golden brown on all sides. Remove and drain on paper towels and then season with salt. 

Gelato 

  • Cook: 3 hours 

  • Yield: 4 servings 

Ingredients 

  • Milk: 2 cups 

  • Heavy Cream: 1 cup 

  • Egg Yolks: 4 

  • Sugar: ½ cup 

Instructions 

  1. Mix milk and cream in a medium saucepan. Warm and remove until foam forms around the edges. 

  2. Beat sugar and egg yolks in a large bowl until frothy. Whisk constantly while gradually pouring the warm milk into egg yolks. Add mixture to a saucepan and stir with a wooden spoon while cooking over medium heat. Do this until the mixture slightly turns into a gel and starts coating the back of the spoon. Remove from heat immediately if you notice small egg lumps. 

  3. Sieve the mixture into a bowl. Cover and chill for overnight. 

  4. Freeze after pouring the mixture into an ice cream mixture. Freeze in a sealed container until hard. If it is too firm, place the gelato in the refrigerator and enjoy when it reaches the desired consistency.
