How To Choose A Disc Grinder And A Thoriated Tungsten

To choose a Cermaic grinding disc, it depends on the use you want to make of it. You should know that there are many differences between the forms, the uses as well as between the prices of the discs. We are here to guide you in your choice so that you can achieve what you want.

The diamond discs are made to be used with a grinder. It is potentially a dangerous use which presupposes being careful and equipped. You will therefore need to wear gloves, protective glasses and a noise-cancelling helmet. All this will allow you to do DIY while minimizing the risk of accidents.

What are the different types of discs there are?

To choose a disc for grinder, it will be according to the possible utilities since some are versatile, others have a very demanding level of finish while still others are intended for important removal of materials. Not all of them can be used for the same materials:

Diamond discs are used for cutting tiles, ceramics, or even materials such as cement, brick, concrete block, earthenware

  •          Three types of corundum discs
  •          For cutting metal
  •          Materials
  •          Of Stainless steel

What are the uses of a disc?

A Cermaic grinding disc, will allow you to go beyond the simple use of a chainsaw which only cuts the wood. A grinder, also called a grinder, was originally intended for professional use. It quickly democratizes. It will allow you to make several uses such as:

  •          DE burr
  •          Sand down
  •          Polish
  •          Cut Off

Once you have determined what your work will be and the use you will make of your grinder, you will have to choose a disc for grinder according to your surface to be cut.

With which surfaces to use them

There are a multitude of different discs that will be more or less suitable for the use you want to make. The surfaces for which it is recommended to use a diamond disc are: wood, steel, metal and tiles. You must therefore choose a disc for grinder depending on the surface you want to treat.

The three main types are segmented diamond discs, continuous diamond discs or even composite discs. It depends on the shape and the edge of it.

Use of the tungsten electrode

In the TIG process the thoriated tungsten acts as the arc terminal and is not consumable. It is it that generates heat for the opening of the welding arc and starts the welding process. Hence the importance of knowing the right tungsten electrode type and the most efficient way to use it in the TIG welding process for get best benefit.

  •          Utilization above tungsten electrode current limit - causes erosion or melting of the tungsten electrode.
  •          Use of very low currents - there will be arc instability due to overheating.
  •          Use of tungsten electrode as positive pole in direct current - requires much larger tungsten electrode diameters for the same current compared to tungsten electrode in negative pole with direct current.
  •          Use of tungsten electrode on positive pole direct current - allows a current of only approximately 10% of that used for the same tungsten electrode on direct current with tungsten electrode on negative pole.
  •          Use of the tungsten electrode in alternating current is of the order of 50% of the direct current with tungsten electrode on the negative pole for the same electrode.
  •          Tungsten electrodes are produced by chemical or mechanical finishing to remove imperfections and impurities on their surface.

Pure tungsten electrode

Pure thoriated tungsten has at least 99.5% tungsten and has a lower current capacity than tungsten alloy electrodes. However, they are widely used in welding with alternating current, because it maintains a clean and rounded end, which allows good arc stability in this process.
