How To Avoid Injuries With Sports Strapping Tape

Leading an active life means increasing your risk of getting injured, hence the need for proper prevention to avoid injuries such as using a Sports Strapping Tape. Taping or Strapping can prevent or relieve joint injury or pain since the tape can offer the support and stabilization that the injured parts need. These tapes provide a different level of compression to athletes without side effects and can even fasten recovery after a shoulder or knee or ankle injury.

Typically strapping tape is used for the following purposes-

• Providing support and stabilizing after acute injury to facilitate the healing process

• Relieving chronic pain

• Speed up the recovery process by compression affected skin tissues

• Prevents injury

• Reducing chances of further recurring injury

There are different types of Sports Tape available online or in-store that can be used for different purposes, such as the following-

Rigid Strapping Tape- This is also known as athletic tape and can be used to reduce your range of movement, support injured joints or align joints or structures.

Elastic Strapping Tape- This is often used by athletes to rehabilitate, align, reduce the range of movement, relieve pain or support injured structures in the body in cases that require less rigidity.

Kinesiology Tape- This tape is almost similar to elastic sports tape and is solely focused on assisting muscular function.

Depending on what type of injury you have, your physiotherapist will determine what type of strapping tape will be used and where it will be used. Some common examples of taping would be the use of rigid tape for ankle strapping on the injured person to limit its range of movement after an injury or the combination of elastic and rigid tape for shoulder taping. Best quality Kinesio taping can be placed for calf taping to remove more weight from an injured part.

Apart from the shoulders and ankles, strapping tapes are used majorly on the knees, back, hand, and wrist. Some people also used on fingers and elbows. Always remember that, before applying the Strapping Tape, the skin area should be shaved at least 12 hours before the taping starts. Clean that area using a tape remover or body oil. Broken skin or rashes must be covered with a non-stick wound pad before putting on the sports tape. For sensitive and soft skin, an under wrap is best applied to the area to be taped. Make sure to follow instructions written back at the package before using the tape.
