How to check your PF balance online?

EPFO (Employee Provident Fund Organization) is tasked to handle the provident fund schemes formulated by the government of India. EPFO works under the administrative control of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. 

EPFO has launched a digital platform that can be used for withdrawal and tracking of PF status of employees across the country. For EPF member balance enquiry, PF holders need user ID and password. You can create a user ID and password yourself. Here is the complete guide for EPF balance check online:

 Login to EPFO Member Portal

 Once your EPF account is activated, you can easily login to the EPFO member portal using the user ID and password.  Take the following steps to log in to EPF member portal. 

  • Open the EPF portal

  • Enter the details mentioned on the registration page 

  • Make sure you provide the correct details during the registration process, as later, you will be using the same details to log into the EPF member portal. 

  • Once the registration process is over, you can now log on to the portal. 

  • At the time of login, you will need to select whether you want to log in using your PAN. If you have registered with PAN number, then you need to select PAN number from the ‘Select Any One Document’ tab and provide your PAN Card number.

  • Cross check all the details before getting PIN

  • Once you submit the detail, you will get an authorization PIN.

  • Enter the authorization PIN, and you will be registered on the EPF portal.

 The above process will help you open the EPF Member portal. You will need to enter specific details like address, name, mobile number, document types to download the EPF passbook from the EPF website. 

 Remember while logging on to the EPF member portal, you must have the 12-digit UAN (Universal Account Number). This unique number is available on your payslip. 

Every employee is allotted with only one UAN number in his/her lifetime. Once you are allotted with the UAN number, you can activate your account on the EPF member portal.

Your UAN number must be activated to log in the EPF account. 

 How to log in to the EPFO UAN Account

Take the following steps to log in to the EPFO UAN Account:

1.    Click here to open the EPFO website. 

2.    You will reach the login page. 

3. Enter the UAN number and password that you received activating the UAN number. 

4.    Enter the captcha in the box.

4.    Click on ‘Sign in’ button to proceed. 

5.    You will be logged in to your EPF account.

 What to do if you forget the password?

If you forget the UAN account password, you can reset the password of the EPF portal by taking the following steps:

  • Click on the forgot password below ‘Sign in’ button to recover the password. 

  • You will be able to recover the password only when your KYC details are integrated with EPF account. 

  • Hence, make sure you complete the formalities. 

  • Submit the basic details to receive an OTP on the registered mobile number

  • Enter this OTP to activate your account

 How to Check EPF Balance

Now you can check their EPF statement anytime you want without waiting for your employer to furnish the details at the end of the year. EPF balance check online facility is available 24X7. In fact, for EPF member balance enquiry, you can use the offline methods as well.

 How to Check the EPF Balance Online? 

 1.    EPF balance check on the EPF Portal

EPF members can check their PF (Provident Fund) balance by logging into the EPF account. They need to visit the official website of the EPFO or Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Here are the steps for seamless access:

  1. Sign in using with UAN and password. 

  2. After you sign in, you will find Member IDs of all the EPF linked accounts with your UAN, in simple words its one employee one EPF.

  3. Click on the member ID of the EPF account for which you want to view the member passbook.

  4. The passbook will be displayed on the screen. 

Remember the following points while checking the EPF balance online:

  • You will be able to access this part of the EPFO portal only when you have an activated UAN number and you are registered on the UAN Member Portal.

  • If you modify the information on the website, the same will reflect within 6 hours of the modification. 

  • The passbook records the latest entries that have been reconciled by the EPFO field offices. 

  • Individuals with inappropriate account and exempted members shall not be able to view their passbook on the EPFO website. If you have made no contribution towards your EPF account in the last three years or more, the account will become inoperative. 

2.  Umang App

EPFO has launched the Umang App which is single-click way to access all the information related to the EPFO account. 

  • Download the Umang App from the Google Play Store or App Store. 

  • Using Umang App, you can access the EPFO account on the go. 

  • The app can be used to check EPF member balance and download the passbook. 

 Here is how to check EPF balance using the Umang App-

  1. Download Umang App from Play Store or App store. Click here to directly access this app. 

  2. After installing the app, open the app and select EPFO. 

  3. Now Click on the “Employee Centric Services”

  4. Now click on the ‘View Passbook’ to check the EPF balance here. 

  5. Enter the UAN ID and then click on the Get OTP. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. 

  6. Enter the OTP and click on the login. 

  7. Select the member ID of the enterprise for which you want to check the EPF balance

  8. The complete information will open on your mobile screen. 

How to Check the EPF Balance Offline

  1. Get EPF balance using SMS

  • Send the EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number

  • Suppose your UAN is 123456789101, the message should be EPFOHO 123456789101ENG

  • For Hindi, you can use HIN instead of ENG

  1. Get the balance through missed call

  • You can access the balance by giving a missed call on 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number

Note: The UAN account must be linked with Aadhaar card, PAN card, and bank account.
