You would not deny that the 9-5 schedule is too tight and we look forward to a haven where we can be ourselves without worrying about the daily trail of tasks. How about owning a holiday retreat in the middle of the woods? If this excites you, a log cabin is ideal for your needs and makes for a perfect shelter for you.

Before we move forward on explaining how do you build one survival shelter for yourself, learn what a survival shelter looks like. A survival cabin is nothing but a small cabin where you can spend your weekend and look at it always whenever you feel like coming close to nature. Life is not certain always and there would be time when you might need to escape from whatever is happening in your life. In such scenarios, these survival shelters built amidst the woods can be of great help.

A survival cabin is a kind of handcrafted log home which has all the basic facilities with a comfortable place to sleep, eat, stay warm and safe. With a few logs and tools at hand, you can create your survival shelter of your own with great ease.

Let us see the steps of creating a survival cabin:

  1. The very first step of creating a log home is to choose a good location. An ideal location would be close to the main road but yet away from the reach of the general public. Nonetheless, your survival cabin should be close to the stream of water.

  1. In the next step, you are supposed to collect the logs. As you do not have time to dry logs, you should look for dry logs in the forest. The logs should be 10 inches in diameter. Depending upon the height of the tree, you will be able to get 2-3 logs out of each tree.

  1. Once you have logs ready, it is time to build the walls. You need to create a square shape out of the logs to form the base for your log home. If you have time to build foundation as well, you should use vertical posts at each corner on which the entire wall will be built.

  1. Once the walls are built, you need to cut the openings for windows and doors.

  1. The last step would be to build the roof and for this, you will need triangular shaped walls.
