All students, regardless of whether they are in school or university, must write standard expository or persuasive essays, each of which must have a thesis statement. A thesis statement constitutes your main point and you present it in the form of an argument. To write a thesis statement, you must answer the main question and do some research to be sure that you can support your thesis.

Part1  Understand your subject

  1. Determine the assignment assigned to you by the teacher. 

You should be careful to know what type of essay it is and what is its extension, format, theme, purpose, parameters, and structure. Regardless of whether you have been assigned a topic or that it is a more general topic, your first step should be to synthesize the topic that has been assigned to a single question that you can answer with your thesis statement. 

  • Consider the subject of the task. What are you expected to write? Then, turn this topic into a question that can be answered. 

  • For example, in case you have been assigned to write my essay cheap or report that explains the safety benefits of buckling your seat belt in the car, you can turn it into a question that you can answer.

  1. Focus on the topic you will develop. 

In a good thesis, a point of view is provided that is concise and can be argued and that is relevant to your topic. Is your subject an argument, an explanation, a personal description, a contrastive analysis or an analysis of a book?

  1. Consider what you want to say about the subject. 

Do some preliminary research on the subject as a way to help you develop your point of view. Opt for something that interests you about your topic.

  • Regardless of whether you are assigned something general or a more specific topic, you need to take a stand and explain it clearly.

  • Break down the topic until you get an argument about which you can talk enough. For example, in case your theme is the benefits of seat belts, you can explore different points of view. It is possible to take a more general direction and choose to discuss the decrease in fatal accidents since seat belts became mandatory. 

  • Adapt the specificity of your topic to the extent required for the essay. If it is longer, you may have to explore a topic in general, while, in the case of a shorter essay, you may have to be very specific.

  1. Idea yourself a question you should answer for this topic. 

       Asking a question is an excellent way to devise a solid thesis statement.

  • Your question could be "What are the repercussions in the real world of the topics presented in The Great Gatsby ?"

  • Therefore, you begin with this conclusion written in the form of a sentence: "Monetary pride and the dichotomy of the old and new rich people represented in The Great Gatsby were what led to the Great Depression." This is not yet your thesis statement. While it is not a sufficiently well-formed argument, it allows you to have an initial opinion and the main idea.

  • Do not forget that you must adopt a position that a reasonable person could argue. While this does not mean that it is necessary to adopt an opinion that is not popular, you should be able to generate a conversation with you to write my thesis.

  1. Consider how you can express your point with a single complete sentence. 

If you had to express your idea "in a nutshell", what would you say?

  • You started to do it by looking for your point of view, although your argument is not yet fully formed.

  • Once you think of an idea, do some research to determine if there is enough credible information to support it.

  • In case you are going to write about a more general topic, you may realize when you investigate that your current argument is too hypothetical. You should gather some sources with which you have a sufficient amount of information to write about before you waste your time writing the thesis statement and then have difficulty filling out an essay that supports your point.

  • In case you decide to argue that the seat belt should be worn in the back seat, you should look for sources where there are statistics on accidents and safety. 

  • Research further to determine if other people have similar arguments to yours. See how other similar themes and articles establish a relationship between the story of The Great Gatsby itself and the Great Depression.

  1. Write a draft sentence. 

            You must be careful that it is a complete sentence that has a subject and a verb.

  • Once you have enough information to support your thesis, it is time to return to what you have already written and determine what you might have to change about it. 

  • For example, you previously had to "It should be mandatory for passengers in the backseat to wear a seat belt at all times," but you may realize that this does not meet all the requirements of your thesis. You have a solid argument, but you have not answered your question completely.

  1. Be careful that your prayer passes the "so what? " Test. 

        It cannot be just the fact-finding. Instead, you should include evidence that supports your opinion. Prayer should provoke a reaction if someone reads it. 

  • The sentence "It should be mandatory for passengers in the backseat to wear a seatbelt at all times" expresses your opinion, but does not yet provide an argument that anyone can dispute.

  • Be specific as to the "whys" and the "whys". 

  • The same applies to your possible report on the book.

  1. Read the sentence one more time to determine if it answers your question.

                      You should be careful that the sentence contains words that express the subject, as well as that it includes your opinion and does not wander.

  • It is good that you are more specific in your thesis, but this can sometimes cause you to wander around trying to incorporate everything you want to say

  • Your thesis doesn't need to include all the details you are going to address, but it must provide a well-structured summary.

  • Our current statement "Fear of confusing class systems and the search for the American dream that is represented in The Great Gatsby led to an era of consumerism and excess, which triggered the Great Depression" answers the question "What are the repercussions in the real world of the topics presented in The Great Gatsby ? ", although it is possible to revise and reinforce our statement.

Part3 Finalize the thesis statement

  1. Be careful that the thesis has a point that can be argued, that is not too general or just a personal opinion. 

In essence, your thesis is your personal opinion, but it is necessary to present it in the form of a structured argument. 

  • Your thesis constitutes an affirmation about which others could have another opinion and that you will develop in your essay to demonstrate the reasons why you have this point of view.

  • You should check to be sure that your thesis contains an argument that addresses the focus of your question.

  1. Establish a balance between being too lazy and too specific in your thesis.

           If your statement is too vague and broad, you will need many pages to be able to support it properly.

  • "The fear of confusing class systems and the search for the American dream that is represented in The Great Gatsby led to an era of consumerism and excess, which triggered the Great Depression" answers the question, but it is a bit general.

  • The sentence "The issues of inequality in the wealth of American royalty and the search for the American dream presented in The Great Gatsby represent a parallel with consumerism and excess in the real world, which led to the Great Depression" specifies that you will discuss specific topics in the book and compare these fictional issues with the real world.

  1. Be careful that your thesis covers the task. 

Once you have collected the evidence, reviewed and reached a specific position, you should read the task again. Be careful that your current thesis allows you to write an essay that meets the requirements.

  • In case the task has been to discuss the benefits of seat belts, you must re-read your thesis and ask yourself if it can meet the criteria.

  • "Increasing the laws on seatbelts so that it is mandatory to fasten them in the rear seats will provide greater safety benefits by reducing the percentage of deaths in vehicle accidents." 

  1. Make sure you can explain your ideas accurately enough in your essay to support your thesis. 

In case you have investigated a bit, you should be able to provide a sufficient amount of evidence during the trial to support your claim.

  • You must be careful that you have met all the criteria before starting your essay. Do you answer a question? Do you adopt a position that other people may question or oppose? Is the thesis specific enough? Do you pass the "so what?" and "how and why?"

  • As you write your essay, you must follow your thesis and your scheme, but without feeling that it is necessary to compromise your essay so that it can fit with the thesis. In case you realize that you must review your thesis during the course of the essay, you must do so.
