What is Random Packing?

Random Packing has been used for absorption, stripping, and calibration operations in gas, refinery and chemical plants with randomly installed gains. They provide a cheaper alternative to increase the capacity and efficiency of towers. The leading applications of Scuba Mass Transfer know that you provide an optimal solution even for your most important and demanding applications. Know more about Random Packing

In many applications, there are many process advantages of using random. The best reasons to use random tower packing include, but are not limited to:

  • Reduction of pressure drop throughout the column.
  • Reduction of liquid holdup in the column.
  • Increase of the capacity when compared to trays at the same efficiency.

How is Random Packing Applied in Process Plants?

In most chemical separation (aka mass transfer) processes, the vapor is drawn upward into the column by heat and pressure, while the liquid falls down under the force of gravity. There are 3 primary components in the selection of random packing (or any other mass transfer device) and they are capacity/pressure drop, efficiency, and $ s. The larger the random packing, the greater the capacity, but at the cost of lower efficiency. Small packing, high efficiency but at low cost and high cost. The design engineer should select the appropriate packing that provides the most economical balancing capacity and efficiency.
