What is Geriatric Massage?

A technique of geriatric massage uses soft , gentle massage and passive stretching to relieve the muscle tension without unnecessary skin friction. Geriatric massage helps those who are less physically active by helping to encourage movement, which can help improve health and provide a sense of well-being in general.

Originality

In the 1850s two brothers, Dr. Charles and Dr. George Taylor, introduced modern massage methods from Sweden into the United States. In the 1830's a Swedish fencing instructor named Per Henrik Ling invented their massage technique. He was apparently healing himself when he was hurt in the elbows by tapping movements around the affected area. He later invented the so-called Swedish massage technique. This massage method includes applying long gliding strokes, rubbing, kneading, and scratching movements on the body's soft tissues. Passive or aggressive joint movements can also be used.

The benefits of geriatric massages

This form of massage will offer a lot of good benefits to people who are older in years. The following are some advantages which are frequently listed by clients:

• Cut down on work

The day-to-day tension will not dissipate as you age. Massage is a perfect way of coping with the pain. Massage in Ajman can be a perfect way to clear your mind and regroup mentally, in addition to calming the muscles.

• Reduces blood pressure

Some claim massage may help lower blood pressure and in the later years of life may become more of a concern.

• Increases traffic

A healthy flow of blood is vital. This breaks down blockages that cause sluggish circulation when muscles are massaged and lets fresh blood flow more quickly into the body.

• Helps with Arthritis and Joint Pain

Most people suffering from chronic joint pain or arthritis pain try massage relief. This helps relax the areas affected, and can play a major role in reducing this form of pain.

• Boosts lymph flow

Lymph is a fluid which carries oxygen and nutrients into the cells. This plays an important role in the fight against sickness and infections. Massage can help with lymphatic drainage and help you remain well.

• Increases Night

Through muscle relaxation, deeper breathing, improved circulation, and other massage benefits, it's no wonder that as a result you can sleep better; and better sleep will lead to a better overall health and wellbeing.

Cautions

Geriatric therapy should not be used in nursing homes as a replacement for exercise or medical care programmes. Additionally, elderly patients should not be given the following conditions:

• Varicose venous veins

• Recent activities

• Serious acute soreness

• Some heart problems

• Certain types of cancer

• Blood clot history (Blood clots can dislodge as a result of massage and travel to the lungs);

• Blood thinner drug therapy (These drugs raise the risk of skin bleeding)
