Creative Ideas for Employee Onboarding Portal

There are tips companies can follow to make the onboarding process for the new employees engaging, fun, smooth, and increase retention. A bad first impression means lower employee engagement, higher dissatisfaction rate, and more turnover. To avoid this there is a need for an excellent onboarding solution, not just box-ticking onboarding. It is said that nearly 70% of the employees are likely to stay with a company for a longer period if their onboarding experience is good. When there are a larger number of turnovers, replacing staff can be costly. The challenge for the company and the HR Manager is introducing the new employees in a welcoming way, which will generate interest. However, there are creative onboarding solutions that can be beneficial.

Following are some creative ideas to make the employee onboarding process memorable.

Prepare a Welcoming Gift- Everyone loves a welcome gift, whether it's a voucher or a gear for them to use at work, prepare one for the newbie. It can be as small as showing them the culture of the team, engage with them during lunch break, or just about anything. Gifts for new employees can be a way to introduce the office culture.

Give them a Relaxed Start- Give the new employees a relaxed start will let them get relaxed and more prepared without overwhelming them. You can easily do this, have them start in the middle of the week so that weekend doesn't seem so far off. Or have them come in later in the morning, so they don't feel overwhelmed. Ease the new hire into their position so that they'll build a positive attitude.

Make the First day Memorable- Take it into account to introduce the new employee to everyone, show them around, or plan something exciting if possible. Provide them with enough information to feel them welcome, and don't just put them into work without any guidance. You can do this just by planning something simple where everyone can get involved.

Connect them with the Team before Their First Day- You can remove the uncertainty and stress of the new employees by connecting them to their colleagues before they start. You can have them do a physical meet-and-greet, but if that's too much work, have them connect digitally on LinkedIn or other platforms depending on their choice. Even a simple text can make them feel welcome.

Use an Employee Onboarding Software- The onboarding process requires a lot of manual work, using a structured onboarding program can make the process easier for both the hiring manager and the new employee. You can create a checklist and task list for both current employees and the new hires in the program. Having a planned task list gives you time to focus on the onboarding process.

Incentives for New Hires- Offering incentives to the new hires to leave can filter out the bad employees who are only in for the money. It is important to retain employees, but it is also important to create a process to filter out employees who are not engaged. They'll stay if the onboarding process was successful, and you gave them a reason to stay and work.

These are some creative ways to make the employee onboarding portal successful and engaging.
