Top Uses of Electrical Connectors

Electrical connectors are an electromechanical device that can be used to join electrical conductors and create an electrical circuit. Most of them have a gender that is a male component, commonly known as a plug, connects to the female component, or socket. These connections may be removable and need a tool for assembly and removal. They can serve as a permanent electrical joint between two points. Usually, adapters are used to connect dissimilar connectors.

Different types of configurations of connectors are manufactured for power, data, as well as audiovisual applications. Electrical connectors are generally divided into four parts, differentiated by their function:

  • Inline or cable: They are permanently attached to a cable and can be plugged into another terminal.
  • Chassis or panel: They are permanently attached to a piece of equipment so that users can connect a cable to a stationary device.
  • PCB mount: These connectors provide a point for cable or wire attachment. For example, pin headers, screw terminals, board-to-board connectors.
  • Splice or butt: These connectors permanently join two lengths of wire or cable.

Uses of Electrical Connectors

8P8C: Eight positions/eight conductors – these are modular connectors that complete with eight positions that include connectors. They are generally used for landline telephones.

D-Subminiature: These electrical connectors can be found on IBM-compatible computers and modern ports. In general, they are used for testing, computers, and telecommunications. They are available in different varieties. Some include solid machined contacts, crimp and PCB mounts, thermocouple contact options, and the list goes on.

USB: In Universal Series Bus, these connectors are standard to interface devices. They are generally used in the manufacturing of MAC, Apple, and PCs. They come in different types and serve different purposes.

Radio frequency: The next common use for electrical connectors is the radio frequency connector. They are used at radio frequencies that do not change the transmission line’s impedance.

Power: The primary function of these connectors is to prevent people from being shocked if they come into contact with energized conductors. They are generally industrial and multiphase power plugs/sockets and NEMA connectors.

Today, there are so many electrical connectors manufacturers that offer high-quality connectors at great prices. By taking the assistance of the internet, you can easily find the right manufacturer and purchase the right type of connector for your needs.
