8 Basics of removing constipation by altering your daily routine

Whatever may be the reason, constipation, spoils your day. In modern lifestyle, most people are not able to meet the demands of correct diet, exercise and time management. As a result, digestive disorders and constipation follow.

 Let us find out some easy adjustments to our daily routine that restricts the regular occurrence of constipation and digestive disorders from happening. 

Basic Causes of constipation

Firstly, it is crucial to monitor what you are eating when you are trying to find out the cause of your constipation. So, while fibre rich diet – fruits, salads and whole grains remove your constipation, a high-fat unprocessed food invites constipation.

The second most common factor is the medicinal drugs which interfere with the retention of water in the intestine.  Medications like Iron supplements, Blood Pressure, Depression and Anti-allergy drugs affect the bowel movement.

A sedentary lifestyle with no exercise or physical activity affects constipation as well. Due to the lack of physical activities, the body extracts more water from stool, making it hard to move from large intestine to rectum.

Frequently ignoring the urge to poop also develops a constipation problem. As a consequence, nerves in the rectum get adversely affected, and the brain stops to send urge signals.

Some diseases like hypothyroidism and diabetes are also responsible for causing constipation as they affect the nerves.

#1 Yoga for constipation

Vajrasana is one of the easiest and best yoga asanas for acidity, constipation and gas.

It is a Swiss army knife for all belly disorders including aiding in digestion on the one hand and relieving constipation on the other. Interestingly, this is the only yoga asana which you can do even after a meal.

#2 Taking a walk after a meal

If you are not comfortable to perform Vajrasana, try to have your meal at least 2 hours before a walk. Strolling, as a matter of fact,  for 25-30 minutes after a meal speeds up the process of digestion and prevents constipation.

#3 Triphala Herbal Powder

In the Ayurveda, Triphala is a powerful tri-herbal remedy which contains Haritaki, Bibhitaki and amla. This herbal medicine has absolutely no side effects and can be taken with warm water at bedtime. It is quite safe to consume two teaspoons of Triphala Powder after the meal at night to get rid of your chronic constipation.  

One of the main constituents of Triphala, Haritaki, can also be taken alone if only constipation is your main problem. Nowadays, tablets of Haritaki is also available in the market. And it has a great taste too!  

#4 Consuming Lemon water

 Lemon water is often suggested as a natural home remedy for the treatment of constipation. The citrus fruit, being a natural laxative, not only promotes healthy digestion and, absorption of nutrients, but also, helps in the removal of waste from our body. 

Lukewarm Lemon water Instead of starting your day with other beverages, having a glass of warm lemon water with rock salt in the morning benefits more in the regulation of fluid balance and digestion. Proper digestion will keep you energetic all through the day.

#5 Copper Vessel water

Drinking water that has been stored in a copper vessel is another easy to provide your body with enough copper.

According to ancient medication theory, consuming copper-enriched water on an empty stomach in the morning balances Kapha, Vata and Pitta which are forms of body energy. This method, although, does not deliver instant benefits but delivers considerable benefits in the long run.  

#6 Drinking plenty of water 

The basic mantra is to stay hydrated. Drink at least six glasses of water every day. Include fruit juices in your daily routine. Curtail your consumption of caffeine and soda containing beverages as they are known dehydrating agents.

#7 Consume a fibre-rich meal

Bulk up on fibre. Try to get at least 25 grams of fibre daily from your diet. Good food sources include sprouts, apples, figs, bran cereal, and black beans. 

#8 Fibre-rich Diet

Taking fibre rich diet in your daily meal greatly influences the constipation issue. As fibre retains water and is integrated into the stool, it makes the movement easier due to softness. Experts recommend taking 25 grams of fibre daily. Some good sources of dietary fibre are apples, figs, bean, sprout and bran cereal.

If for some reason you are not getting fibre in your diet, you can even have Psyllium husk which normalises bowel movements preventing constipation.
