Considering a Gardening Trailer | Things You Need to Know!

As a professional gardener, you know the value of having the right equipment. You may have all the tools and gadgets you need to do the job well but if you do not have an adequate trailer to haul all of this from job to job then you are in trouble. Not only do you need your trailer to transport your tools and equipment to the job site, but you also need your landscape trailer to haul off dirt, leaves, and grass clippings when you leave the job site. The trailer that you choose is an important investment in your business, so you need to consider a few things before purchasing your SCH trailers.

Size of the Trailer

First off, you should find out what size trailer you will need. Think not only of what you require today but if you want to expand your business in the future. The type of equipment you use will determine whether or not you will be using a single axle trailer or a double axel trailer. A single axle landscape trailer is perfect for the one or two-man operation that does not use heavy equipment like a riding mower. If you are a small business, and you are just using push mowers, then you should consider the single axel trailer. However, will be using several push mowers, or use a riding mower, then you will definitely need a double axel trailer. This type of landscaping trailer is made for companies that use bigger equipment and need to haul heavier loads.

Open Utility Type Trailer

Next, you need to decide if you will be using an open utility type trailer or a more professional fully enclosed landscape trailer. If you are just starting out your business and you are on a budget then by all means get an open frame trailer now. Even if you decide to get a better trailer later you will still have use for this beginner trailer later on for occasional jobs. The only drawback to these types of trailers is that since they are fully open you have no way to secure your tools and equipment to prevent theft.

Consider an Enclosed Trailer

This is alright if you have the ability to lock up your trailer at night in a garage or warehouse, otherwise, you may need to consider an enclosed trailer. With an enclosed landscape trailer the frame has a housing built all around it and you can safely and securely put all of your equipment inside and lock it up. In addition, your investment in tools and equipment will be protected from the weather as well as from thieves.

Final Considerations

One final consideration is if you have an open frame trailer then you need to think about side panels. You will need a way to rack equipment, and keep your other things from falling over the side of the trailer. You can either do this with side running panels, or you can have a wire mesh cage built up around the frame. Obviously the wood paneling on the side is the cheaper way to go, but if you can afford it you will want to consider adding on the wire mesh top and sides. Doing so will give you the security benefits of a fully enclosed trailer but at a reduced cost.
