Use of different types of switchesThere are many types of electric switches available in the market place and the working principle of the switch depends on the ON/OF mechanism. It is important to know what switch is needed for prior to making a purchasing decision.Mainly switches are divided in two types of categories.
1) Mechanical switches: Those that areswitched physically move. Those that can be pressed or moved or touched are called mechanical switches. Let's describe some of the mechanical switches usages.
2) Wall switches –A wall switch is one of the most common switches that is used in residential and commercial building for lighting control. The case specification of this which type include combination device function, actuator type, and additional switch function such as dimmer control, fan speed control, or timer based switching.
3) Dimmer switches – Dimmer switches help in controlling the electricity flow across various lighting source of your home.Ideally, dimmer switches are equipped with the power to adjust the voltage capacity of any lighting system so that you can turn the light in varyingsubtle shades as for your convenience and requirement.
4) Push-button switches – The button which does it work by pressing once is called push button; you can see it in many electrical devices like calculator, motor starter, mobile, laptop etc. This button can be e used to turn off or start any circuit. They are the most common variety of switch used in industrial control panels.
5) Emergency stop switches –As the name implies, the immediate stop button is a remedy, people can get protection by pressing this button when an emergency occurs. In various factories, the visible red button can be seen in some large and medium-sized machine tools for electrical appliances.
6) Toggle switches - Switches are also known as single-pole electric. These switches are used extensively in electronic panels and instrumentation where a wider range of switching function is required, such as in switchboards.
Electronic switches: Are generally called as solid state switches because there are no physical moving parts and hence absence of physicalcontacts. Most of the appliances are controlled by semiconductor switches. There are different types of solid state switches are available in today market with different size and rating. Some of these solid state switches include transistor, SCRs, MOSFET, TRIACs, IGBTs. These are the types of switches generally available in the market. Apart from this, there is a wide range of durable designer electrical switches, which can last for years.
