The discipline of reconstructive urology has expanded over the past two decades beyond urethroplasty and male genital and scrotal reconstruction. Other important topics in the field of GU rehabilitation for female and male patients include bladder and urinary tract reconstruction, urinary tract fistulas, prosthetic surgery, radiological injuries, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, urinary incontinence, and wound healing surgery.

Urinary Tract Reconstruction

Reconstruction of the urinary tract also includes advanced surgical techniques using rotating muscle flaps, skin and muscle joint flaps, and skin grafting techniques to repair defects in the genitals and soft tissues. The muscle flaps we use most often are the internal thigh muscles, the gluteus maximus, the hip Sartorius muscles, and the abdominal rectus muscles.

Restoration of the Structures

Reconstruction of the urinary tract involves the restoration of the structures that store or transport urine, i.e the bladder, urinary tract, and urethra. Bladder reconstruction usually involves increasing the size of the bladder with a patch of small intestine or colon, followed by delivery of urine to the skin through a surgically formed canal. Once the bladder is completely removed, we can restore a new bladder with a 3-meter small bladder or a small piece of the right colon and small intestine.

Reconstruction of the Urethra

Restoration of the urethra involves combining the skin, oral mucosa, and skin and muscle cover to increase the diameter of the urethra to normalize urination. Reconstruction of the tube usually involves filling a cavity in the bladder that is missing or diseased, replacing the bladder with an elongated bladder, a bladder tube, or a segment of the small intestine or appendix. a tube that carries urine to the bladder.

Laparoscopy and Robot Assisted Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy and robotic-assisted laparoscopy are very suitable for bladder and bladder reconstruction and can help reduce hospitalization and overall recovery time.
