Getting Prepared For Your Move Into Student Accommodation

Living in student accommodation is great. The facilities are modern and comfortable, you’re provided with plenty of opportunities to make friends, and in the case of Be.Accommodation, you even have an onsite caretaker that can be contacted 24/7.
The only thing you have to focus on is moving, which is why we’ve put together this checklist. Take the stress out of moving by ticking off the boxes, and you’ll be settled in no time.

Packing
The first thing you’ll need to do is pack.
Your important documents
Whether you’re moving from overseas or interstate, you’ll want to have these on hand.
• Your accommodation contract
• Key forms of ID, such as a driver's license and passport. It’s a good idea to have photocopies of them as well.
• Spare passport photos
• Your bank or debit card and bank account information
• Your insurance documents

Your electronics
Stay connected with your electronics. Make sure you remember to bring the following:
• Chargers for everything, with an adaptor if necessary. Remember an extension cord too!
• Your laptop, and its case
• Camera: polaroid, film or digital
• Hairdryer and other hairstyling equipment

Clothes
You don’t need much, to begin with, but you don’t want to worry about not having enough when you first move in.
• Comfortable and appropriate outfits, from shoes to clothes. Pack enough for your first few days.
• A bathrobe and nice slippers. If you’re coming in winter, some warm and fluffy ones won’t go astray.
• Raincoat, umbrella and some wet weather shoes
Toiletries
Better safe than sorry!
• Shampoo, conditioner, and soap
• Deodorant
• Medicine, bandages, and band-aids: remember to pack some pain relief tablets
• Toothbrush, toothpaste, and lip balm

Upon arrival
You’ve planned and thought about it, and now the day has arrived. You’ve moved in. What’s next?

Check your inventory
If this is the first time you’re seeing the property, take your time to inspect it. Once you’ve done that, check the tenancy agreement and the inventory. It should outline everything included in the accommodation, from bed to bedsheets.
Once you’ve checked that it’s all there, take some photos. It’s important to have your own record!

The vitals
Your student accommodation will come with all the main necessities you need, but you might like to pick a few more up. Maybe an extra blanket, some more pillows, or some earplugs tickle your fancy.

Decorate
Although you don’t need to decorate, it certainly helps make the room your own! Photos of family, friends, and pets never go astray, nor do posters of your favorite movies.
Whether you’re an international student or coming in from a rural area, you’ll feel better once you do.

Unpack
It’s your new home, so treat it as such! Put your clothes into your spacious wardrobe, your suitcase in the wardrobe corner, and your study supplies on your desk. Now’s the perfect opportunity to let your family know you’ve settled, or if time zones mean they’re asleep, you can go and make some new friends.
