What is a mission critical environment?
The mission-critical environment is one that contains all the IT components, such as software, databases, processes, applications, among others, that play an essential role in business operations. The failure in its functioning can affect the survival of the organization as a whole, generating loss of productivity and revenue and even shakes in the reputation of the brand and relationship with customers.
For example, imagine a car and all the components necessary for it to work, the battery, the engine, the steering and fueling system. They are all mission-critical systems, and if they fail, the car will stop working.
Now, if the air conditioning has any setbacks, the driver may even feel discomfort due to the problem, however, he will be able to keep his car performing its normal function. Therefore, this system is not critical to the car.
The same rule applies to corporate IT systems. Technology is fundamental for companies today, however some applications, systems and even structure are more important than others.
Desktop Support Technician is known as one of the backbones of IT organization. They are also accountable for groundwork, installation, and maintenance of end user workstation equipment (laptops/ desktops) and additional peripherals including IP telephones.
For most enterprises, databases and process control servers are considered mission critical and therefore must be protected against incidents.
However, with increasingly connected and complex environments, it has become increasingly difficult for companies to be able to determine which are their crucial systems that require greater dedication and mission critical environments.
We know that it is not possible to maintain all IT resources and systems in mission critical environments, the budgets for this would be astronomical. So it is crucial that you know how to define what your business priorities are.
