Choosing the Right Office Chair

Choosing the right office chair doesn’t have to be impossible. By simply knowing the in’s and out’s of office chairs and ergonomics you can easily differentiate from cheap chairs that will only last a year or two and high end chairs that could last as long as ten years. Not only that, by being able to identify ergonomic features in a chair, you will have a chair that conforms and fits to your body.

Everyone has different body shapes as no two of us are exactly alike. A chair that is comfortable to someone who is tall may not be at all comfortable to someone who is shorter. In order to narrow down the best chair, you want to be sure that the chair you are buying has some sort of adjustable lumbar support. If the lumbar support is not adjustable, there is a good chance the chair might not conform to your body.

Another good thing to know is the difference to mid-back and high back chairs. Though this may have some obvious connotations, a mid-back chair will be more comfortable for average height people where a high back will be more comfortable for taller people.

The construction of the chair is also a very important factor. People who are larger may require a heavy duty computer chair that can handle the added weight, use and wear and tear. If for example a 300lb man buys an everyday run of the mill chair, it is likely not suited for his weight and the gas spring hydraulic lift mechanism will likely give out after only a few months or a year of use. Where if a heavy duty chair had be purchased, that chair could last an additional 5-10 years!

Lastly, if you want a fully ergonomic chair you will want to look for numerous adjustment settings which could include seat depth, back height, adjustable lumbar support, swivel, tilt and adjustable arms. Though more expensive, a chair with this many features will conform to your body and likely be better for you than anything you might find in a big box store.
